"Johnny B. Bad"

The Inside Story of the Man and His Music

This fan page has been established in support of the new book "Johnny B Bad: The Making of Hail Hail Rock 'N' Roll," published by Rare Bird Books.

This book breaks down, note by out-of-tune note, the behind the scene dramas, the twists and turns, the tensions and confrontations of producing a documentary feature film all about Chuck Berry's life as the "Father" of Rock 'N' Roll. It involved trips and filming at Chuck's studio in his home in St. Louis and trips to Chicago, Jamaica (to Keith's house), New York and Los Angeles.

The producer/author Stephanie Bennett  was ultimately responsible for dealing with Chuck Berry's demands on a daily basis. Demands which included more money while doing a dance of avoiding the daily "come on's" from the Father of Rock N Roll himself, Johnny B Bad.

The story of the making of the movie will be told by the filmmakers and the musicians who participated in bringing Chuck's "True" and unfiltered life story to the screen.

Keith Richards, Jane Rose (Keith's Manager), Jane Ayre (Film Publicist), Little Richard, Bo Diddley, Steve Jordan, Helen Mirren, Director Taylor Hackford and Producer Stephanie Bennett. Also as a premiere and never before seen chapter, a conversation (with photos) between Robbie Robertson and Chuck Berry examining in unfiltered detail, Chuck's early career. The book includes unseen photos that were taken before, during and after the production of the movie.

"Johnny B. Bad" by Stephanie Bennett with Thomas D. Adelman is available now.

with author Stephanie Bennett

Hail! Hail! Rock 'N' Roll: Chuck Berry

Hail! Hail! Rock ‘N’ Roll is the 1987 seminal documentary profiling godfather of rock and roll Chuck Berry. Taylor Hackford directed; Keith Richards was the musical director; Stephanie Bennett produced; and Bruce Springsteen Etta James, Linda Ronstadt, and Robert Cray among others appeared. Producer Bennett now publishes the book Johnny B. Bad, compiling an oral history of the documentary with interviews with over 15 main players, including Helen Mirren, which reveal not just what it took to make the film but provide a close up look of Chuck Berry as never seen before – the sometimes cruel and shocking man behind the mask. She introduces an exclusive screening of the film and signs books at its conclusion. (Film runtime 120 mins)
